Nike’s Great Slogan…and My Three Kids.

The Nike Corporation has, as you know, developed, branded, and marketed one of the greatest slogans of all time…Just do it! There are many slogans out there that are well known, catchy, and entertaining, but when it comes to effective parenting, very few match Nike’s line.

Think about this statement: everyone’s knowledge level supersedes their obedience level. That is to say, we all know more than we actually do. Nike essentially says, “We know that you know, Just do it!”

We all know (have in our knowledge base) that kids should have structure, parameters, discipline, strategic tough lessons, more family time, instructions on setting goals, the benefit of being taught initiative and developing a good work ethic, etc. You could make a much more exhaustive list, no doubt.

Now, if I took all of our lists and asked what is in place in the routine of life that actually contributes, teaches, or develops these things in our kids, there might be a huge gap between what we identify that our kids should get, and what they are actually getting.

You and I both already know it, and so does Nike. So just do it!

The few who do are the envy of the many who watch.

Just do it.
